Drilling boreholes into the Earth's crust can be done in many different ways using different types of drill rig and ancillary equipment and so people new to the drilling industry can easily become confused by this great variety of methods and equipment. In reality, all drilling operations are very similar and we can identify five "essential features" that are common to all drilling methods and techniques.
In this course you will learn about these five common features plus some other important, fundamental drilling concepts. If you can master the concepts that are discussed in this course you will be able to better understand the more detailed and complex concepts that are covered in later courses. A good understanding of these concepts is essential for all Geologists, Safety Officers and Supervisors.
This course consists of 3 modules:
Module 1: Features common to all rock drilling operations
Module 2: Types of drilling machines
Module 3: Flushing systems and hole cleaning
